Unable to get gear manager pair Gear S smartwatch with core prime phone?

Bought metropcs Galaxy Core Prime and the phone will pair with the Gear S via bluetooth but the gear manager fails to recognize the watch. Can someone tell me if there is a trick to get them to pair or are they not compatible with one another?
