OTA update 24.14.12 fix if update fails

Long and short. The OTA 24.14.12 bricked my phone this morning. It went through the normal process. Restart and the little man with rotating globe in belly. 2 minutes in it stopped updating with just update error above man and phone rebooted. Just Verizon logo on screen well that lite my fuse. Well since I am a computer support tech I know a little about Android Linux so I gave it a shot to fix the problem. Here are the steps below and have a USB cable to connect to PC.

Download the Verizon update and recovery software from Verizon on Chrome NOT Microsoft Edge (flags as corrupt on Windows 10). Windows smartscreen filter flags the software. Ignore that and to the left of the pop up there is a place to click to run anyway. Setup program as normal and close setup.

Now to the bricked phone.

Plug phone into turbo charger for this as battery drain is an issue.

Verizon walked me through the recovery bootloader to get to erase and reinstall phone software:

Press and hold both the power button and volume down together til it boots to the bootloader.

Next press the volume down button to recovery. Press power button. A screen comes up with no command. No worries

Press and hold power button then press volume down and release. This brings up the system restore options.

Press volume down to erase and reinstall. Then volume down twice to where it says system and personal settings. Press power button.

This wipe the phone and will make so it will boot up with errors. Just be patience and tap OK every now and then as it will have multiple errors (for me com.Motorola.system.main error), phone will be sluggish and phone will get warm.

Once errors are bypassed. Setup phone as normally through the prompts. It will be sluggish and time consuming.

Once you get to the home screen. Get ready to plug to use windows 10 PC to recover phone.

Open the Verizon software once it is up plug in phone and wait. Til you see that it is recognized shows Droid turbo 2 version 24.14.11 update available.

If you get this far you can, you can unbrick the phone.

Click update and this may take awhile 45 minutes for me.

It downloads the files to the phone over the USB cable. Decompresses the files on the phone. Then the phone will reboot to the bootloader screen. Don't worry it updates from there instead of traditional OTA Android man with spinning globe.

It updated 30 items for me on the Verizion program. It took about 30-45 minutes to update over USB. The update finished and my phone is unbricked.

No problems with the USB update.
