How to install twrp???

I had seen many tutorial in miui forum,and every tutorial requirements want to cook boot.img ,what's that?the tutorial don't have teach how to do it,it must be do?guys help me!!!!! I brought my redmi note 3 snapdragon 4 months already,and haven't root it,help!!!
